BRANDING FOR USU & USU PARTNERS

A big goal of mine throughout the duration of my time at the University Student Union (USU) was to stand out from other entities that exist on the CSUSM campus and to create a living, breathing brand that the student population can take great pride in. To achieve that goal, the brand has to appeal to the student population and has to be something that they themselves can represent with ease and can be easily incorporated into their wardrobe. The approach is looking at current design trends and tying in university components into those trends. Additionally, I approach simple and minimalism designs with the understanding that simple design never age poorly.

Beyond the swag items created, that approach of minimalism and simplicity has been my philosophy when creating any design for the university or for any entity in general. I stick with this approach when developing print media for promotions, logos, and motion designs. The effectiveness of this approach is generally well received both from professionals and students and has contributed to a developing audience who follow the USU specifically for its brand appeal and aesthetic.

I have done multiple rebranding efforts for different areas within the CSUSM campus community. The two requests when these rebrands are in progress is to refresh what was once an outdated design/logo and give it a more modernized look, and to create a logo that will gravitate students through modern and simple designs.

Here are a few examples of the rebrands I have done for some of the departments at CSUSM.

DESIGNS FOR USU PROGRAMS & EVENTS

A good part of my role at the USU was to create a lot of the marketing materials for events and programs taking place at the USU and CSUSM campus. Some of the requests would be video production, social media posts, and creating the overall promotional materials and designs for their events.

Some designs were themed after the event, and some designs were given full creative control. Some required full-fledged campaigns utilizing the designs I create, and some bodies of work were only to promote internally.

Again, my approach to every design is simple and minimal, and you can get an idea of how I carry that approach over to my designs.

I've designed hundreds of event promotional material over the years of working at the USU, so these are just a few notable mentions.
